College of St. Artemas
College Meeting
23 February, 2003
Meeting called to Order: 7:14PM
Present: Lord Lonán, Lady Ariana, THL John, Lord Torin, Alvar, Lady Liuete, Muirrenn, Kol, Ross, Sherief, Lord Chartain, Lady Seraphina
Officer’s Reports:
Constable: Sherief - He got paperwork from Felix, and is on his way to becoming a warranted constable.
Web Chronicler: Kol - the web still exists.
Chatelaine: Muirrenn - Things are going well, we have one new person recruited through the warband. I got loaner feast gear at Estrella, so we now have 3 sets of cups, bowls, and plates. I did not however, find the belt guy the Andrews sent me to, so we don't yet have belts.
Arts and Sciences: Lady Liuete - We will someday have a fletching workshop, whenever THL John gets it organized. The college can pay for the materials for that workshop. She is planning on doing some inkle weaving for the auction for artemas anniversary. There were lots of A&S classes at Estrella and lots of people went, so the college is getting more artsy. We may need more medallions for anniversary.
Herold: Alvar - Sean Davis submitted his name, Mikael Wynter. We'll find out in a while what happens. He will do a heraldry workshop as soon as he can get the shinai club people organized. He will post to the list and see what times are good for people to have the workshop. It will be next quarter.
Captain of Archers: Archery is still going well. Harry Ross, the man we buy materials from came to practice the other day, and was a big help. He's a great coach. He is still planning on having the fletching workshop, but he doesn't yet know when.
-He is interested in having Iron Maiden help with the ditch project
-Ross is working with Baron Thorvald and Lord Doug to organize a baronial work party at the park.
Exchequer: We have $2565.37, not including Great Western Monies, but including September war. Regarding the rope issue, we cannot cut a check to Sean O Donovan himself because non-profits cannot pay for personal gain, which is how this would be classified. Lady Nastacia and Dame Richenda are trying to find a loop hole. We will probably also need a written explanation for Sean explaining the expense of the rope.
Marshal: Lord Lonán - We have one new fighter, Kyle, authorized. Lady Morgan is still talking about running a combat archery class, but is sick right now.
Seneschal: Lady Seraphina - Available by request.
New Business:
- Lady Liuete - She and Muirrenn got the bid for Sepetember war, so that will be interesting. Also, for arts and sciences next quarter, people should start thinking about what workshops they would like to have
-fletching
-garb 101 (maybe with a guest teacher)
-scriptorum field trip
- Lord Torin - There were some trailer problems coming back from Estrella; a motorhome tried to run him off the road, and as a result, the trailer busted an axle and a bearing. The repairs cost $116.59, and he would like the college to reimburse him for it since it is used principally to haul college camping gear. Lady Ariana thinks this should be fine because it is used by the college, and we have paid for things for it before
-THL John motions for the college to spend $116.59 to repair the trailer
-Lord Lonán Sedonds
-the motion was unanimously approved.
-The trailer also needs some maintenance work done, specifically a new paint job. He will organize a work party next month to do this.
- THL John - We need to go down to Potrero park and do some work on the ditch. It has widened several feet and needs to be shored up. He is planning the work party to be on the weekend of 3/21-3/23, camping there from Friday night to Sunday. Iron Maiden might be able to come up to help, and Lady Muirghein is going to try to get the cooks guild to come up and prepare meals
- Ross - he and Farland have been discussing hosting Iron Maiden for meals for September war. How that works is we feed them and they donate us their hours. We would like to extend them the invitiation to do this
- Chartain - he will talk to the people who are interested in going in on this, which is usually about 8-10 for September war.
- Lord Torin - The warband's 10th anniversary is coming up at September war. Farland is planning a five course feast for Saturday night. They are expecting 80-100 people. Maybe it will be possible to reserve the open/closed ramadas or the stone tables to have it at.
- Alvar - He has purchased some prizes for St. Artemas anniversary. He got a matching pair of blue goblets with etched roses on them for the award for most chivalrous, and would like to be reimbursed.
-There was a motion to reimburse him which was unanimously seconded and approved.
-The first prize for the winner of the trournament is going to be a sabre that he is going to make, and he is planning on painting it green for St. Artemas. The prize for the loosers bracket in the tourney is going to be a shield. Appropriate.
- Lord Chartain - He is the autocrat for the Talanque/Tanwyr Tournament, and is planning on having arts classes at his event. If anyone from Artemas would be willing to teach a short class on anything pertaining to archery, he would appreciate it.
-THL John volunteered to try to come up with something.
-The event will be at Sweet Water Sumit Park in Bonita/Spring Valley. He is not yet sure whether or not they will be able to do archery there. Lord David of Caithness is going to teach a "Big pot cooking class" (read dutch oven), and they are expecting a large turnout at this event, given Baron Talanque's recent passing, and as such, they are planning on giving him a viking funeral at the event.
-Lord Lonán volunteers to be the dog
-He also needs the names, phonetic pronunciations, and personas of all the members of the Guardians of St. Artemas because he is planning on writing a Beowulf-style epic about the warband, so please get him that info.
- Lady Liuete - She needs to borrow crock pots for the st. artemas feast, so if anyone has one, please let her know. She is planning on sending out an email with this request. Also, she and Muirrenn have a rough draft of the feast menu, which she will also be sending to the list. Feel free to email suggestions or changes, of if you want to bring anything. Any donations will of course be most happily accepted.
